Spring 2024: Preserving Our Past, Building Our Future

At Friends of Swansonville, we are committed to the restoration and preservation of the historic church and local history on Swansonville Road in Port Ludlow. With your continued support, we've achieved significant milestones and have exciting plans for 2024. Here are some important updates:

Re-Activation of Nonprofit Status

We are thrilled to announce that Friends of Swansonville has successfully re-activated its nonprofit 501(c)3 status as a legal business entity. This reinstatement strengthens our commitment to preserving this historical landmark.

Board Member Updates

In November 2023, our dedicated board members convened and took necessary actions to further our mission. We are delighted to welcome Jake Thomas and Kendra Hermanson back to the board, with Jake Thomas assuming the role of Vice President. We are also pleased to introduce John Malczyk, who has been approved as Secretary/Treasurer. Terra Frank remains our steadfast board President.

National Park Service (NPS) Grant Extension

Thanks to the diligent efforts of Jake Thomas, the NPS grant for restoration has been extended until the end of September 2024. This extension provides us with a valuable opportunity to make significant progress. We plan to utilize this grant to fund the installation of a new roof in 2024.

Restoration Progress

Our partnership with Brent Davis Construction and local contractors is in full swing. Together, we are meticulously planning and executing the installation of the new roof, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2024. Furthermore, we are initiating plans for future restoration and construction efforts, including placing the church building on a new foundation.

Acknowledgments

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to former Friends of Swansonville board members, leaders, and volunteers for their unwavering dedication. Special recognition goes to Jessie Michaels and Steve Lunde for their exceptional efforts, particularly in shoring up the church steeple structure.

We also express our appreciation to the Jefferson County Historical Society for their valuable oversight and sponsorship over the past four years. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to the East Jefferson Rotary Club and its members who have generously supported our restoration efforts.

Our journey to restore this historic landmark continues, and we are grateful for your ongoing support. Together, we are preserving our past and building a brighter future for our community.

Thank you for being a part of the Friends of Swansonville family!

Warm regards,

Terra Frank
